Crafts: Tropical Halloween Paper Mache

Halloween in Southern California! The most wonderful time of the year. It's finally starting to cool down here so I can work longer hours with the windows open. I've been elbows deep in Papier Mâché lately making pumpkin lanterns, bowls, and art objects to sell during the holiday season. I highly recommend this instructional site for anyone looking to jump in the medium. 100% TEAM JONNI!

The biggest game changer was when I started to store my paper pulp in single use portioned ziplock bags. This made the mixing and clean-up process a breeze. Wish I would have thought of that sooner! I also learned to avoid using tape when making cardboard structures. Thicker sculpts needed to be oven dried to avoid mold prior to painting.

I'll be keeping things creepy cute this year with a cheerful take on traditional decor. The MATTRAM pillow from IKEA is the purrrfect $4 black cat companion for anyone decorating on a budget. Target also came through with a rainbow assortment of glittery pumpkins this year. Try using them as planters around the house or on your stoop!

Last but not least, some inspiration from Kelly Bryden of Brit + Co! Her magical Pineapple and Melon Jack-o’-Lantern d.i.y. post is so perfect for a sunny SoCal Halloween. The photos shot by Chris Andre make my eyes happy :)
